Then and Now…

Themed 365 Project

So I was going through some old shots and have always liked this shot so I decided to have a go at a redo….what do you think? It’s not that I didn’t like the original I just thought a new take on it might be interesting. New software also helps with a fresh look. So never trash those old shots, you never know what you can do to an old favorite.

  1. Great work on the improvement. Can’t remember what magazine it was in, but I read an article about a photographer going back (in some cases 5+ years) and re-looking at old shots he had passed out. Basically saying the same thing you are, and I totally agree! Keep -everything-!

    1. Gisele,

thanks for the response, I used Topaz with Lighroom for the redo….the more I look at it I think it’s too warm.

  2. It’s such an awesome capture. That wave was caught at the right moment. Very interesting how your new edits changed things. I love both but do find that the new one looks somewhat more like an illustration than a photograph.

  3. Mike, I really like the increase in warmth and tonal range. You’ve done a very good job. The credit has to be with you for the original shot though. Great capture.

  4. You have a great eye for composition……love your original capture. In the second one I like how you opened up the shadows on the rocks, however I tend to agree with your assessment and think it may be just a little too golden.

  5. Either way it is a beautiful shot. What is fascinating to me how is how the processing changes the overall feeling of the photo. In the end it comes down to what you want to sgare with us, the viewers.
