Themed 365 Project

This is the main cupola of the blasting furnace utilized by workers at Howell Works in Allaire State Park.  It is one of only a few blasting furnaces remaining in the United States from the late 1700’s and early 1800’s. The raw bog iron was smelted down and then cast into iron ingots at this furnace.

After tonemapping I utilized 3 presets in Lightroom in coming up with the end product.

1. I used the B+W and blue filter and adjusted the brightness levels.

2. Then I punched in the Edge Effects- PC Vignette 2 filter and this really finished the shot.

3. Preset for Sharpening with narrow edges.

I have to say that I really like the finished product on this one…the processing and my new Sigma 10-20….it’s all good!

  1. I really like this one – all the different angles offset by the softness of the trees.

What would be really cool for a relative newbie to Photoshop like me, is if you occasionally posted the shot SOOC, and then the final tweaked one. It’d give me more of a feel for what the post processing actually did.

  2. woah!! incredible b&w image, absolutely perfect. love the composition and placement with the fence in the foreground. well done!!

  3. Wow, that is breathtaking…the processing is picture perfect, and I LOVE the composition…the broken fence frames the bottom part of the furnace! Very appealing!
