Even More Isolation…

Themed 365 Project

The more I look at these garden photos the more I love the ability to utilize the large apertures and/or the long focal lengths to create a shallow DOF.  This shot is from my 70-200 lens at 4.0 and 200mm, even with an  aperture like 4.0 you can isolate any flower amongst hundreds of others. Sweet!

  1. I love these types of shots, too! I get mine on my compact superzoom by setting the aperture to f/2.8, stepping back and zooming in all the way from a distance.

  2. I like how you’ve got the stems and slender leaves in focus as well as the flower. How did you keep the focus from not falling off there? The left bud, which appears on the same plane, is soft. It’s BoomerMagic, I think! 🙂

  3. The precise DOF makes the background look like a colorful impressionist painting. I really like the contrast in the focus- the crisp purple cosmos against the soft background.
