Woman 2…

There are quite a few clever thinking people out there with the lady luck answer. There’s also an interesting story behind the sign itself. This iconic sign was designed and gifted to the city of Las Vegas by graphic designer Betty Gillis in 1959.  Apparently Betty did not  file for any copyright for it’s design and has evidently never received single bit of compensation for it’s design. Just more evidence that Lady Luck is on the side of the house. And to boot, the last time we were there, the Dept of Tourism had staffed the site with a photographer who will snap pictures of you and your friends or family for “free”. Like many other places in Sin City I walked away with a lighter pocket.

Night

Well, I’ll let you make the decision whether the Strip is more alive at night or in the morning! It certainly is more difficult to shoot at night handholding. I think I only brought out my tripod once and there was so many people walking about you couldn’t even utilize it.

This is a 3 shot hdr with some burning and a slight vignette correction adjustment.

When you start your journey walking around Vegas you know there’s always going to be something to see but you just don’t know what it will be. When you walk into the Bellagio you know your going to see something exciting and extravagant, today was no exception. The designers have put together a fantastic garden theme around the hotel (mainly the reception area and the famous conservatory) and it did not disappoint. Flowers, balloons and other props can be seen in all colors under the sun…..even a little bit of red.

Must be seen large!

One of the first places I discovered indoors was the lobby of the Vdara. The Vdara is part of City Center and right away you can see how the interior design matches the concepts of the exterior. The Vdara is a residential condo, coop, timeshare complex(?) and it is attached directly to the Aria Resort and Casino.
My brother was explaining to me the whole concept of the city center and strip and about all I understood was that , unfortunately, with the economy the way it is( I hope I explain this correctly) there is enough residential space available for the NEXT 40 YEARS! In essence, they believe it will take 40 years to fill all the residential space built along the Las Vegas strip. OOPS!

Trying something new with a slideshow as I couldn’t get the 3 shots to line up in a row in one post. If anyone knows how, I’m all ears. Anyway, the next morning I went exploring the City Center and discovered all kinds of great angles to photograph this “city within a city”. I’ve tried these shots in B+W and my post them as well. All these shots are single shots with little processing. I wish I had more knowledge of architectural photography before capturing these.

All the talk in Vegas is about the new “City Center” and so far most opinions are not in favor of the project, naturally I had to see it for myself.  It is certainly different but from a photographer’s perspective I loved it. It’s all about the geometric, streamlined look- very futuristic with lots of intersecting lines yada, yada.
This is a 3 shot HDR from the strip side just before the sun went completely behind the mountains.

We’re finally back home…I know that sounds like we didn’t enjoy our trip and that couldn’t be farthest from the truth but it’s always nice to be home. I want to thank my brother and his family for having us, you guys are the best and treated us like kings(and queens). THANK YOU!
We arrived in Vegas about midnight and found this view from our balcony from the Signature @ MGM Grand. Within viewing distance is the Planet Hollywood hotel and residences, the Polo Towers, the Carriage House and City Center.
